Dare to Dream
I believe in the importance of having dreams. I believe in setting your goals as high as you want and having no limitations. I believe in reaching for the stars, but taking one step at a time to get there. I believe that with hard work and dedication you can reach your highest aspirations. I believe that "Anything is possible through Christ who strengthens me." Philippians 4:13
As a child you have a limitless amount of dreams. You dream of one day becoming a princess, a firefighter, a soldier, an astronaut, or a professional athlete. Many people view children's dreams to be impossible or unattainable, but their ability to dream reveals their innocence. Most children are able to have such high aspirations because they have not had to face the harsh reality of life. But often times when we come to this realization our dreams change and we no longer believe that we can do everything we once wished. This shouldn't simply cause you to stop dreaming though, because trying to reach your goals is better than giving up and never knowing what could have been.
Ever since I was a kid my whole life has revolved around my dreams. I have always been certain of two things; that I wanted to become a nurse and play Division I College Soccer. Therefore, throughout my childhood and high school years I had two main focuses; to work hard in school and to become the best soccer player I could be. I knew that Nursing Programs were becoming more and more competitive to be accepted into; therefore I remained focused in the classroom and earned good grades. I know that now it is just as important to keep my grades up so one day I can live out my dream and work in the hospital as a nurse.
My time spent outside of the classroom has been dedicated it to living out my other dream of playing College Soccer. I have spent countless hours training on and off the soccer field, driving to and from practices, and traveling around the country for games and tournaments. I have made many sacrifices over the years, but it has all been for my love of the game and for a much greater purpose. My journey to the University of Cincinnati has not been an easy or straight cut path though. I have hit some bumps in the road, but I never gave up. During my sophomore year of high school I decided to switch club teams. I left the team that I had played for since I was eight, a team with some of my best friends, and a team that I loved. But I knew that this was the right decision for me if I wanted to have the best opportunity of being recruited by large college programs. After considering the offers I received, I made my verbal commitment. My dreams were finally falling into place until the University that I had committed to hired a new head soccer coach, and unexpectedly released my verbal commitment. I was very shocked, upset, and somewhat discouraged, but didn’t give up. I kept with it and contacted other college coaches. After reevaluating my situation I committed to UC, and looking back now I couldn’t be happier with this decision. I have learned that life it isn’t always going to be easy. You are going to face various trials and tribulations, but that doesn’t mean you should give up on your dreams. I believe that these obstacles only make you stronger, and that sometimes one door closes so that another one can open. I can now honestly say that I am living out my childhood dream because of my hard work and determination.
My dreams are not unimaginable, but they are something that I have had to work for, and most importantly they are my own. Dreams may be simple or complex, but a dream is a dream. Dreams give you a purpose and a motivation to reach something you have always wanted. I believe that everyone should have a dream, and that you should always to strive to reach that dream despite any obstacle.
